He first skinned it and cut it open around the shoulder blade. Then he showed us a ball and socket joint and told us how it worked. Then he told us that if you put out a hip it is a serious injury because it breaks the ligament in the ball and socket. Then he cut it down the middle to show us the “GUTS” first he showed us where everything is set out and explained that we are very similar to a sheep on the inside. Then some of us got some gloves on and held a piece of lung. Then he got out the liver and we passed that round. The liver really stunk! After that he showed us that the lungs have air in them and they float and the liver doesn’t. Even try it! Some time after we had been looking at the liver he showed us where the heart lived. He opened up the heart and showed us the arteries and all of the chambers that the heart has. Then came the smelly bit. He opened up the stomach and Lucy had just had a feed! There was heaps off munted grass that the stomach had been processing. After we had done that we had an experiment at finding how long the small intestine was. It measured it as 14 steps running. Then he opened the head/cranium. He cut the jaw open so we could see that Lucy had not been brushing her teeth! Then he showed us the Lens in the eyeball. He opened it up and it squirted liquid at him. When he opened it up more you could see this really cool greeny, bluey colour. It looked really effective when it was shining in the sunlight. After we had finished we put Lucy to rest in the peaceful (smelly) offal hole!

Taranaki Netball Trail

On Sunday me and Connie got to go to a netball trail, for the year 7 Taranaki.
When we got there we were freezing cold in the frost at half past nine in the morning.
At first we had to get our number ton our leg. Mine was 4, Connie’s was 5.
Me and Connie pasted the ball around.
There were about 70 kids there and they had to narrow it down to 35 really.
The first thing we had to do was get in to groups of Shooting, mid court and defence. Then we got in to five. And we got a group of five from the mid and the defence and they were the groups for the day.
The first skill we did was dodging and to get the hang of that we played ball tag. When the 20 minutes were up we went to the next rotation which was really, really boring and so were the next 2.
When finally finished we got back all together to have a couple of fun netball games. To show the selectors what we got.
Me and Connie had only got to play two games.
The first game I went GA and then the second I went my favourite position GS.
At least I was getting all my goals in.
When every body had a couple games they called us in to tell us if we are in the top 35.
The lady beside Rachel said that they weren’t going to call the names out in a particular order but they did the called it from the order of your number. So I didn’t have to wait very long because I was number four and Connie was five.
When they had finished calling out the girls that go in to the next trail, we had to go and make sure that they had our right positions.
When it was all over I was very relived that I might have a chance in the Taranaki team and hopefully I do get in with Connie as well.

In the hoildays

In the holidays what did I do? Two of them were to do with Scott’s 7th
B/Day and the other one was to do with the Douglas tennis Club Break Up.
I started at my nana’s place for a couple of days with Katilyn. We made some flowers and went to Netball and that was really all we did.
By the end of the holidays it actually started to get some where. That day me and Nina worked well together. The first quarter I got all the goals in with 100% shooting with the other team not even getting the ball in to their goal circle.
The next quarter they finally got one in with it 15 to 1, but the ext half they put their players in their strongest positions and that made them get a couple of goals in.
And when the game was over te finally score was 26 to 4 to us, with me getting 24 of those goals and Nina getting the rest.

Shane's big cut...

In the holidays I was going to Stratford with Mum to get a hair cut and the boys went with Dad to get the sheep in ready for shearing the next day.
When Mum was just locking the door dad and the boys came up the drive way on the motorbike, with Shane on the back grieving with pain.
While this was all happening, I was in the car waiting for Mum and wandering what the heck was going on. Dad told me to get out of the front set and get in the back.
As I was doing that he carried Shane in the front set from the motorbike. Then when Mum was finished locking the door she came out to see what was going on.
Dad pulled Shane’s trouser leg up and Mum took one glance at it and run back to the door and unlocked it and rushed to the phone to get an ambulance.
At that point I still didn’t know what was going on, because when dad showed mum I didn’t bear to look.
And I was glad to not have looked because I asked dad and he said in a little voice he got cut and I new at that point it was a bad cut!!!
Mum took so long on the phone because she was trying to convince them to met her on the road, but they were worried that they would go down the wrong road.
When she finally got them convinced she jumped in the car and put the emergence lights on and drove.
The bad thing was that she wasn’t going the same speed then she usually does and that made me really car sick, but not that much to make me through up luckily.
And when I was trying to hold the bad staff in Shane was strangling his seat belt because he was in that much pain.
When we meet the ambulance it was just past Gordon Road. I had to go in the ambulance with Shane to keep him company. But I wasn’t doing a very good job of it because I was that sick that I didn’t want to talk and what made it worse was that I was facing backwards.
After that long drive in, we finally got to the base hospital in New Plymouth. I walked in and Shane was coming in on a roller bed. I went to go see him then a nurse came along and gave me this chart to fill in but I just waited for Mum to come and fill it in.
After that I went to look out of the door to see if Mum there. I couldn’t see her so I just went back to see how Shane was getting on. And guess what when I got back to Shane’s bed the nurse just took off his bandage that he had on and guess what I saw it and it made me feel even worse.
When Mum finally found a park she came in to see Shane. She had a little stare at the cut then I asked if I could go in the waiting room, but I already knew where it was because I have been to the hospital hundreds of times but the only reason I asked is because I tired to make a conversation to get my mind off things.
Mum pointed in the direction and I had to go and sit down.
I asked Mum if I could go and get some water from the café which was right beside the hospital and then I asked if I could ring nana and Granddad if they could come and pick me up, because they were staying up at their caravan on belt road.
Mum said it was ok so rang them on my sell phone and they came to pick me up but before they went to go see Shane where he was in a room with about 10 other people in beds.
When they came in the room and talked to Shane he got emotional and when the nurse came in to check on him he tried to hide his feelings in so. The nurse UN bandaged him I was hiding behind the curtain so I felt better. Shane wanted me to look but that didn’t convince me.
She re bandaged it up with a clean one.
Me and my grandparents left and then we went to go and see some of their friends that had a really, really three story flash house by the beach.
Nana and Granddad told them about Shane’s leg and they had a cup of tea and we left to the caravan.
When we got there to was cold and windy but at the same time it was nice and cosy in a warn blanket watching TV.
A while after we got to the caravan Granddad left to go to the farm and check and the cattle. Right after he left Shane and Mum came around the corner.
It was quite surprising that he got to come home because he had 27 stichs and Shane said that it took an hour to do it all, but he was lucky that it wasn’t even worse.

My Essay

It’s better living in the country…

To me this statement goes both ways because if you did live in the country it would be along way in to town and you would be spending most of your time in the car travelling.
For me the good thing about living in the country would have to be not as much traffic unlike the towns and the cities which make it noisier and you wouldn’t find the air as fresh. In addition it would make it bad for the environment with all that pollution.
And how about the parents, how do you think they coup with all that travelling and the money spending with the petrol. What about the time pressure, trying to get to places on time? Like… taking your kids to sport, going grocery shopping and all those meetings that they have to get to on time? How much pressure do you think they’ve on their backs? But the good things about it would be they can relax more in the country because they don’t have the noise and racket of cars going past all the time like the cites do.
And not forgetting all those sporty people out there that live in the country. How early do you think they have to wake up in the morning to get to an early starter game ah! That distance they have to travel, but luckily there are a couple of good things about it… they have a peaceful drive in and they might even meet some people on the road that they know. That would make it a pleasant drive in wouldn’t it?
For the animals, they would be having the time of their lives if they didn’t live in the town as a pets and think of how big their paddock would be. No room to roam around in and how boring do think just waking up to this little block of grass and living in there your whole life without a friend to play with and think how much grass they would have when really the only thing they really do is just eat. Once when I was waiting for Shane to serve while I was standing up at the net, he served and it hit me really hard on my back.
The most annoying thing was that Callum was watching and he couldn’t stop laughing.
At least we won our doubles though, 7-2.
The next game I played was my singles match. I won that easy, 7-2 again.
Our team won all our games and they didn’t even get 5 games.
After tennis me, mum, dad and Shane went to town to have lunch at the bakery.
` We finished our lunch and went to nana and Poppa’s for afternoon tea, then we went home to the other nightmare.

Key= other nightmare means Scott

Why we shouldn't play sport and exercise

To me that statement is just a joke because is this really happened to us we would turn into big hippos in a matter of time and wouldn’t be able to get our daily exercise.
I don’t approve of this statement because to the people who love sports would get bored very quickly from sitting around all day and they wouldn’t be as fit as they used to be.
To the people who hate playing sport and don’t get their daily exercise, they wouldn’t be able to lose the weight that they all ready had put on, when they weren’t exercise.
As well as the people who hate sport and love sport, how about the sport unions. They wouldn’t get money for doing their job. All they wouldn’t even really have to turn up at work because nobody would be playing sport and if that happened to me I would just QUIT!!!
Then we come along to the pro-sport players. Their body’s wouldn’t be used to sitting around all day, watching TV and eating junk food and for instance they would be really, really BORED!!!
So that why we should be able to play sport in the weekends and have your daily exercise and if that statement was true we would eat to much junk and be lazy, but that would prevent deaths from heart attacks and that’s very bad.

Tennis again

Last Friday I made a challenge against Mikayla Fleming on the ladder so I could be in the under 12 rep taranaki tennis team.
Me and Mum had to drove an hour to Mania to play that tennis match.
When we got there I was so nervous. But before we showed up we bought her a gold and silver necklace. Dad had a hair cut at centre city and then we got a bite to eat and then we went to see the family.
We got there and had a chat, then Scott and Mathew wanted to go for a swim so I took them down to the beach right in front of there camp site. I didn’t go for much of a swim because it was FREZZING, but the boys didn’t seem to feel the cold ness. So I got out early and told Nana to come and watch them swim so I could go and get dressed.
We had another little chat then we went to a restaurant and that also was right in front of us to.
We had a nice dinner. I had the B.L.T and most of the adults had the fish of the day.
After dinner I, Kerri, Rebecca, Shane, Scott and Mathew went for a walk along the Warf and when we were nearly at the end of it these bugs turned up and they were flying all around our faces, I thought they looked more like Moses.
So then we started to fast walk to the end and back, but we had a couple of stops watching to see if anybody had caught a fish, but some of them looked like that a fish was on their line, but really they were just stuck on the rocks.
When we got back the others were waiting for us and when we were up to walking up the step track to the caravan, we set of up the hill.
When we got up to the top we gaped some of the cushion and sat out side on the mat.
We played some brain teasing games. We did that for quit a while and then Scott and Mathew went in to the caravan for a little sleep because they we that tied.
When we were nearly ready to leave, we woke up Scott and then we offered if Kerri and Rebecca if they wanted to stay with us in the cabin. They came with us and it was so, so hot that we had to leave the windows wide open.
In the morning we got up and had a shower and went back to the caravan, and also we had one of our family’s friends next door in her tent her name was Squid.
We had another little chat and then Mathew had to go home and then we went ten Pin Bowling and after that we went swimming at the aquatic centre, with Kerri.
While we were doing that Shane, you see couldn’t swim because he had his massive cut on his leg. So he went t Francs Douglas to get his uniform.
We went back to the caravan to say good bye and then we went to get some lunch and after that we went to Harvey Norman to buy a new Laptop.
We bought this really good one and then on the way back home we were playing on it the whole way. We had five minutes each then we had to stop.
When we got home we were so tied to do any thing really.

Pets Day

Last Saturday it was our schools pets’ day.
For pets day I was going to have a goat called Earl but he died so I got a lamb called Halo.
In the morning I washed his legs and picked off the pieces of grass stuck on his body and brushed him as well as that. We put the lambs in the trailer and left for school.
When we got there we tied our lamb up by the fence and went to see my friends.
When they called us in I sat by Halo and waited till my turn. Well I didn’t have to wait very long because I was just after Shane and Shane was first to do his leading.
When it was Halo turn at leading he didn’t want to lead and normally he would just walk and walk really well at home.
When it was my turn at calling Halo just ran to me. He did real well in that and that’s because I got a 2nd.
Next was rearing. We all lined up beside the fence and just stood there.
That took along time and then we finally got to do the presentation.
These are our results…

Lambs
Maddy got 2nd leading
Scott got 3rd calling
Caterina got 1st rearing, 3rd leading
Angus got 1st calling, 1st leading, 3rd rearing
Justin got 2nd rearing
Kelly got 2nd calling
And Shane got a participation ribbon

Calves
Roma got 3rd rearing, 1st leading
Connie got 3rd leading
Nina got 2nd leading, 2nd Rearing
Rhys got 1st rearing

Kids
Koren got 1st calling, 1st leading, 2nd rearing
Kristal got 2nd calling, 2nd leading, 1st rearing

After they gave out all the ribbons, we got on to the gala and started spending money. Like on the gumboot throw and the nail drive.
In the nail drive I was 1st equal with Nina so we had to do a nail off. I came 1st for the girls prize and Nina came second.
When the nail off was finished we all went over to the hall to get our exhibit certificates.
They sold the men’s Pavlovas and the winner of that was Loyd Bishop.]
When we got back to the hall, most of the people and animals were gone. We put our lambs in the trailer and dropped them off at home and went to our nana and granddads for afternoon tea.

My Poems

Blue
Blue is the sea god Tangaroa
Blue is the sky in spring
Blue are the pukekos standing in the swamp
Blue are the twinkling stars in the night sky
Blue are the towels swaying on the clothes line.

Excited
I feel excited when its time to play on a hot sunny day
I feel excited when we go on a long hot holiday
I feel excited when we get to go on the zooming roller coaster
I feel excited when I get a cold dripping ice cream
But I don’t feel excited when I take homework home.

Sea
The sea tastes like a big pool of salt
The sea is like a big blue sky
The sea smells like a block of hard salt
The sea feels like a smooth block of butter
The sea sounds like crashing cars on the sea surface

Mountains
Mountains green, white, red
Rumbling, grumbling hot lava
Burning things around

Love spring
Flowers blooming
Flowers swaying in wind
Lovely smelling, bright, colourful
Here’s spring.

Mountains green, white, red
Rumbling, grumbling hot lava
Burning things around
Lava running down steep hills.

Rivers
Rivers blue and green
Water running down steep hills
Warm, cold, sometimes hot
Rocks sit in the deep waters
Sparkling in the sun.

My Garden

In my garden I have 8 plants in my plot. They are… 2 healthy Carnations, 2 strawberry plants that are in good condition, 2 cabbages, one red, one green. A pure green parsley and a soon to be blooming pansy.
The reason I chose 2 carnations is because they have a beautiful flower, 2 strawberries because they grow something very, very delicious. A pansy in there to make my garden colourful, 2 cabbages just to make my tummy full and a parsley to make the soup even more delicious.
How I helped my garden is… I used slug pellets to make the slugs go nowhere near my plants and worms to make my garden even healthier.
And finally what I’m going to do with the plants? Well I’m going to eat the veges and with the flowers I’m going to put them all around the house (inside) so I can annoy the boys because they hate flowers.

Cross Country

Cross Country

Catching up to other
Runners
On the
Slippery
Slidy running course.

Charging for the finish line
Out around the corner
Using all my strength
Now I’m past and
Thirsty too, but still
Ready for next
Year.

Boring Old Docking

In the holidays…

In the holidays we had to do docking 99% of the time, but I real1y did 2% of it. It was starting to get dark so we stopped in Wanganui.
Web wanted to stay at a motel with a heated swimming pool and there was only one motel with one and that was called the ‘’Oasis Motel’’.
When we found our room me and Scott got straight in our togs and jumped in the pool
Man it was nice!!! It was all steamy, Mum loved it.
We didn’t want to hop out but we had to because we were real hungry.
For tea we went to Breakers. I had a chicken burger, Scott had chips and mini hot dogs and Mum had fish.
At that time it was 8:30 and we were begging to go for a swim. And finally we got Mum in to it and went for a swim.
We swam for one hour and that time we were all shrivelled up like an old granny.
We each had a shower and went to bed.

The next morning we were up bright and early. The Ute went fine when we went to go get our breakfast at the bakery and then we went to Mitre 10 Mega to get a padlock for the kennel on the back of the Ute
We got back on the road to go to Palmerston North. We were driving for about an hour or 2.
We had to find the air port because the man with the dog was there waiting for us. The next mission was trying to find him.
We finally found him and Mum went to see the dog and before she went she told us ‘If you want to come and see the dog you have to lock all the doors’.
So we went outside to see the dog and as she said lock all the doors we locked the doors, but after we did all that staff and stepped outside and shut the doors, Mum noticed that the keys were sitting in the front seat of the Ute.
Mum rang AA again and went into the airport. She went around seeing if any of the staff new how to open a Ute without a key.
Then finally she found somebody from the rental car company.
Mum took him to the Ute and he found some white strip of tap and put it though a gap and tried to get it around the unlock knob thing. He got it on and tighten the tap up and pulled the knob up and unlocked the Ute!!!
We got the dog called lace and put her in the little doggy kennel on the deck
After that we went to go and see Rebecca play netball for the Wellington team in the NPC, in the Manawatu stadium.
` She got to play the last quarter and she had got 10/10 for her goal shooting.
After that we all got together and said good bye me, Scott, Mum, Philippa, Sous and Nana, went out for lunch at the Plaza.
We finished our lunch and went shopping.
I got a hair cut at ‘’just cuts’’. So did Mum.
We spent a couple of hours there and then we all went back to watch Rebecca play her second game.
We got there to watch the game, when Rebecca didn’t even get to go on the court.
We all said good bye and then me, Scott and Mum started to drive home.
We stopped in Wanganui to have some tea at Burger King.
We carried on driving and when Mum was just about to say ‘’It’s working like a charm’’ it didn’t work like a charm.
At that time it was 10:30 and me and Scott were getting tied, but lucky we bought heaps of pillows.
Me and Scott went to sleep for a couple of hours and there was a point where we nearly just completely broke down.
So Mum made a decision that we were going to stay at Mums, Mums place in Stratford. Because there was no way that we would get up the Strathmore Saddle.
Poppa took Lace for a walk and me and Scott jumped in to bed because we were real tired.
We woke up the next morning and Mum took the Ute to be fixed at the garage and after that we finally went home.

The Tennis day

Yesterday I had a tennis thingy with my tennis couch “Big John’’ with other tennis players too. He put us in groups of five and I was put in an all boys group. I had to wait two games before I played. Well the first game I played was against Daniel and I won 39-17. I had lunch in between games and my next game was against a boy called Hamish and he had a real bad temper and a couple of time his father got real angry at him when he threw his racket around and I lost to him because I was playing against the wind and it was quit hard to hit a hard shot. The next player was Ben, he’s from my group of the coaching and I won against him easily plus he was 14yrs. And finally the last game came. I played against a boy called Sam and he’s a real good tennis player. At the start I was losing 13-1 but I caught up in time and when big john said one more minute it was 17-17 then 19-19 but I got the next point and then big john said on e more point Sam hit it in to the net and I won 21-19 and that was the end of that tennis day.

Picking up the bus

Yesterday Mum had to go and pick the bus up from Chris. Dad took us down to the bus stop and then we went to go visit the Bishops.
Rhys and Justin were playing on their new Lap Top and were very surprised to see us come up their drive way in the bus. We made a little movie on the lap top and went to go down to their pond.
They made two little boats Rhys went on the most non safe one and I went on the safer on e which was Justin’s. The bad thing was that I was leaning on one side and the barrels were filling up with water a little bit so I jumped on to their little port they made and never touched again.
We went back up to the house and played some play station on Rhys’ new TV. We wanted to play ping pong down at their new wool shed and we did that by going down to the wool shed. Rhys and Justin took their bikes and me, Shane and Scott went to the wool shed with their dad.
We got the bats and played some games, then we played ping pong war in the wool shed until mum and Judy came down in the bus.
We put their bike in the bus and those bikes took most of the space in the bus up. When we finally got in and drove down the road to the Bishops to drop them off and went to drop the bus off at Linley’s and went home.

Kids for kids concert

Yesterday was the kids for kids consert with Suzanne. They put us in our seats in front of the curtains. With all the parent on the other side. They opened the curtains, but it wasn’t so nervous. We stared singing, that was fun. The songs that I really love were Chitty chitty bang bang, the ugly bug ball and all gods’ critters. It got real hot with all the lights beaming at me. All he teachers were sitting just by the stage. It was loud with the crowd talking and us singing. Some of the other kids around me were out of time a lot. When it was all over I was real tied. We went in the dressing room and found our parents. Mum told me to go on the bus home. I got on the bus and e would lose things because it was pitch dark. When I got home I got in bed and went to sleep.

At school we had to build some new computer desks. When we start making the desk we thought that it was going to be exiting but when we first got the stuff out, we were so confused about the instructions!
Then the first thing we had to do was to get into two groups. In one group we had Connie, Justin, Roma and Maddy. In the other group we had Kelly, Angus, Caterina and Scott. Our team was with Kelly.
The first thing we had to do was trying to figure out which way the boards had to go. On our one we did one thing wrong. We put a board up side down but it didn’t really show.
It took about the time from morning tea to launch.

When the day had come for the Te Wera camp day, I got dressed and got all my stuff together.
I went down to the mailbox to wait for the bus, then when the bus was coming it just went straight past. So I didn’t go on the bus, instead I went with Will, Maddy’s Dad, which was way better.
When I finally got to Te Wera I went to go play on the adventure playground with the other kids, then they called us in dining area to tell us the boundaries, what we’re doing and all the rules.
The first activity I was doing was river study with Mr Archer. When we were at the stream across the road there they put us in to groups of four. I was with Justin, Shane and Pete. They gave us a sieve, a scrubbing brush, a tray and a clipboard, the first thing we had to do was half fill up this tray with the water in the stream, then someone would take the sieve down to the stream and get the scrubbing brush and brush the side of the bank in the water and then you would of court some bugs. One group had caught quite a big fresh water crayfish and another group caught a tiny crayfish.
We went back to the camp site to have some lunch and a play around and went to our next activity was team building and archery. They spilt us up in two groups and my group had team building and the other half would go over to the archery and then when 50 minutes was up we would swap over.
In the team building we had this wall we had to climb up. It had nothing to help you up with; it was just a 180 degree wall. The only way to get up was lifting one of group member onto the wall platform and we weren’t allowed to use the corners to help you. We got the whole team on the platform, well not exactly the whole team, because we couldn’t get the very last person onto the platform, but it still was fun to do. So we gave that up and went over to a balancing board. This one you have to get all the members of the two teams on the board with out the board touching the ground. That was quit easy. Then we went over to this big pole sticking in the ground and this tier that you had to get over the top of the pole and back over. And again that was quit easy and very fun to do.
The 50 minutes was past, so we went over to the archery. The archery was a little bit fun, but I wouldn’t say it was the best. I’m not lying, but the archery was harder than it looks! I nearly got bull’s-eye. We had to get in pairs and we only got one arrow per pair and it took quite a while because lots of arrows went past the board and got stack in the bank behind it. And when that was over we all went home.
On Tuesday the whole day we were doing was going in the bush with Bushman Bob, making bivvies and walking up a hill.
Bushman Bob told us a story about a aeroplane crashed in the bush and the person who was in the plane crash had to make a bivvy before it got dark, so he told us to imagine that person was you and we have to make some bivvies before it got dark just like the story, plus we had to imagine that it was going to be dark in half an hour. We had to walk to the bush when the little kids got to go on the trailer being pulled by a motorbike. I’d say it was the best thing we did in the bush. Bushman Bob gave us two pieces of string and a big sheet of black plastic. Then Bushman Bob said go. We went straight to gathering sticks and ferns, we set the frame up and put the plastic over the top as the roof. We put the ferns inside of it for the bed and some for the walls then the time was up and we went to see all the other huts. We had three groups and the first group we saw had the score of 7 out of 10 plus he was testing if it’s a water proof hut and if it can stay up in high winds the whole group had to sit inside it and see if its good or not, my one had 6 out of 10 and the last one had 8 and a half out of 10. My group had the poorest score sadly, but then Bushman Bob told us the right way to make them. He told us how you can know where north and south is just by using a watch or by the moss on the trees around you.
We had lunch in the bush and then the worst bit of all was climbing up this massive hill, when we finally got to the top we had a drink and we carried on up the track back in the bush. We stopped at the track intersected.
He went in the bush and got this plant that I can’t remember its name. Bushman Bob cut pieces of it off and most of the kids including me had a taste. It tasted gross! It was all gooey and slimy, it tasted like raw potato. Some of the kids even liked it! Then we went all the way down the hill and back to the camp and we went back home.

Tanka
Love spring
Flowers blooming
Flowers swaying in wind
Lovely smelling, bright, colourful
Here’s lovely spring.

Rivers
Rivers blue and green
Water running down steep hills
Warm, cold, sometimes hot
Rocks sit in the deep waters
Sparkling in the sun

The rule to Tanka poems is that it has to have 5
syllables then 7, 5, 7, 5 syllables in each line.

Kites

We made six fish kites that took three days to make. We made little ones that looked very cool. We made lots of big kites and small ones too. It took a long time to make the little kites because it took a whole day to make them. The coolest kite we made was a big dragon one. At the end of the day we got to fly them. Most of the kites didn't fly. The big dragon kite didn't fly. Shane and Cullam's one did fly. It went up very high. My fish and my little kite didn't fly.

Rotorua Camp

I started packing up my clothes and a sleeping bag and a lot of other things on Sunday to take on our school camp. I had to stuff all my things in my bags. I brought $14 because there was a shop just down the path.
I got in the car and went to school. When I got to school I saw that there were two vans and two middle sized trailers parked by the hall. There were a lot of bags on the porch and there were green and white jackets there on the porch too. We all put on a jacket and then we all looked at the vans. One of the vans had a grey strip on the sliding door. We called that van Troy. The other van had a blue strip on its sliding door we called it Tracy. Soon we were on the road. The last thing we had to do was to pack our staff in to the trailers. There was heaps of staff to pack in to the trailer. Finally we all packed up our staff and put it into the trailer.
We were on the road. We travelled the way to Whangamonona. There a lot of corners and some people stared to get sick like me. So we had to stop a few times and had to swap seats. From Whangamonona we went to Taumarunui and had lunch at a playground and I went on the monkey bars. After that we carried on to Rotorua. On the way there we saw lots of pine trees and bush. It took seven hours with two big stops and some toilet stops. When we finally got to Rotorua we could smell the sulphur and we saw lots of fumaroles and Nina said “It should be called Bay of Stinky” but on a sign it said ‘Bay of Plenty’. At camp we unpacked all our stuff and we made our beds. We went into the cabin and sorted out where we were all going to sleep. We had to sleep with an adult and that was Robyn. For tea I had spaghetti bolognaise and it was delicious. Shane had boiled eggs with toast. After tea we had some pudding. The kind of ice cream was hokey pokey that was delicious too. We were tired from the long trip so we went to bed at eight o’clock.

On Tuesday we woke up and lay in our beds for five minutes and then we got dressed and made our bed. I went outside and played with the other kids outside. We kept on playing until it was breakfast time. We went to the dining room and had breakfast. We had cereal and toast and a drink of raro. Then we got to have free time. We went to up back to the cabins and played games. Then the fun began and we were off to the Buried Village. When we were there, there were lots of carvings standing around the building. They looked cool with red paint. Then we had to wait for Mr. Chapman to pay then we went into the museum. We had to get paired up. We got to go into the museum and look at all the cool stuff. There was heaps of stuff. There were broken bottles and plates and lots of valuable stuff. We watched a movie. It was about a man who was in the eruption and died. Then we got to go outside and we got a map so we knew what the places were called. There were lots of trees and there were broken up buildings. Then we got to go into the bush and look for white marks. The white marks meant that there was a broken up house under the ground. Then we saw Mr. Macrae’s hotel with wood lying everywhere. That was very cool. There were houses and a concrete bakery. There were lots of pathways around the place. There was this place where a house was standing up and you could go underground to see all the broken up bottles and plates. We spotted a stream with trout in it and we threw pebbles into the little stream and the trout came out of their homes. Then five minutes on we went down this pathway and it lead to something cool. Then when we got down to the bottom there was this waterfall five metres high. That’s very big. Then we made it back up to the café and waited for the others.
We went back to the camp and had a barbeque lunch. I had a bun with a meat patty it. That was very yum.
After lunch we went to Leisureworld. When we got there we saw that there was a huge building with three big Hydroslides. One hydro slide was black then the rest were red and blue. We were so exited that we were going to go swimming with out paying. When we got in to the shop and Mr Chapman paid we got dressed and went over the rules. Then we went to the top of the building I went down on the red one first. On my second go I went on the black one and I yelled so loud. Then we got dressed and went back to camp and got dressed in my good clothes to go to Pizza Hut. We got to Pizza Hut and went to have a tour. After the tour we had pizza. I had two pieces of pizza and some chips. Then we had some pudding, I had ice cream in a cone. When I was putting ice cream in my cone I wanted it to stop but it wouldn’t because I didn’t push the handle on the ice cream machine straight up. Then we went back to camp and we played a game with Miss Lewis. We played Grandpa’s Green Undies. It was a cool game. Then we all went to bed.

Wednesday
On Wednesday morning we had breakfast and went to the Rotorua Museum. It was a big building and when we went inside there were lots of pictures on the wall and lots of necklaces and bracelets. After Mr Chapman had a talk with the people who were there we got a tour guide that gave us a sticker so they knew that we were together. Then we got to walk around and he gave us a worksheet with lots of questions that we could answer. Then we got to split up into three groups. First I got to go up to the top of the building where we could see the view of the whole city. Then we went down to the basement and we had to put on some helmets and went into the basement. It was very hot in the basement so we went through it quick. Then we went to look at the baths
There were lots of baths and there was on that had been carefully taken out and left a big hole. Then we got to watch a movie and the three babies got very scared of the spirit of fire that the good guys killed and pushed into the ground. The movie was about the Tarawera eruption and all of the sets were moving. Nina kept on laughing when the sets were moving. Then we went and had lunch at the park.
When we went to Te Puia we went in a marae and saw Maori people dancing in a Maori. Then we learnt a bit more Maori. We went to some schools and then we went down a truck and then we stopped to look at the mud pools then we went down some more then we could see the geysers. We sat on some warm rocks that looked like seats. We couldn’t sit on the yellow bits because steam was coming out and it could burn you. On the way back to do some weaving we stopped to look at the geysers and one sprayed us with hot water. At the weaving shop a lady taught us how to weave flowers and roses from flax. When we got back to camp we put our togs on and went to the Waikite Hot Pools which were very warm but we couldn’t put our heads under. After the swim we went for a walk to the biggest hot spring in the world. Back at camp we had tea and played games and went to bed.

Thursday
On Thursday the first thing we did was the luge. I lost my ticket on the luge then Mr Chapman bought all of as some more tickets. We got four turns each. It was fun because I got to go two turns. I went at the same time as Claire and we were having a race and I won. It was fun. After that all of the school went to camp and had lunch. Then we went to get our togs and we went to the blue lake and we went on the biscuit. We all got 2 turns. I went with Callum and Justin on the biscuit. If you wanted to have a turn on the boat you could go on the boat. If you wanted to water ski you could. I went water skiing. When we had finished we went back to camp and played camp games. Then we went down for dinner. Then we went up and played more games. Then we went to bed.

Friday
We stared packing then went down for breakfast. We had eggs and toast for breakfast. Then we went up and got all our stuff in the trailer. Then we all got in. I got in the front then we stared driving out of Rotorua. When we got out of Rotorua we stared playing car cricket. We were the New Zealand team and we won. Then we played a question game and you have to ask someone a question and then they are not aloud to answer. They have to say a question back. Mr Chapman was against me and I got cheeky to him. He said that I was in big trouble but he was just tricking. Then we came back to school and went home.

Kelly's Blog

I am Kelly and I go to Makahu School.
